Pacific Science Center

Today's outing was to the super fun and educational Pacific Science Center in Seattle.

"Can you hear me now?"
Our first stop at the Science Center was outside at the large parabola shaped megaphones. They both sit about 50 feet from each other and are supposed to enable a person to hear a whisper spoken by someone at the other megaphone. The girls were so excited to be at the museum that whispers were not the level of testing for this exhibit. You can hear an excited "hello" though.

Next stop was dinosaur land. I learned that dinosaurs are not lizards. They are classifieds as reptiles. Although some scientists believe that they should be a class of there own.
I do try to learn something new at museums, but in between watching four children and trying to take cute pictures this was about all I learned about dinosaurs.
Stylish glasses!
Next we watched a 3D film. The film was about the food chain off the South African coast and the importance of sardines. Sardines, we learned, are a very important part of the food chain and in need of our protection. I will never take another sardine for granted again. It was a really neat movie with a lot of environmentalism. Save the Sardines!

It was funny to watch Ashlie try to grab the fish in the water when it seemed they were swimming right by us.

Cute as a bug!
Madelyn being an ant.
This next picture was taken in absolutely my favorite place in the museum - the butterfly house. I love all the beautiful tropical flowers and the colorful and graceful butterflies that fill the room.
I tried to take some good close ups of the butterflies, but this was the best I could do...I think I will get some pointers from my talented husband on how to work our nifty camera to get just the right photo.

Get lost!
That's exactly what we did in the human maze.
"You could learn a lot from a dummy"...or you could use one as a seat.
Yes folks, that is a REAL crash test dummy Madelyn is sitting on. We found him just sitting around in the "Speed" exhibit. Speaking of speed...our friends tested their strength on this cool machine that measures speed and horsepower.
They were able to get up to an impressive 188mph and 0.36 horsepower.
Next to try was Madelyn and Sabrina...

Considering the size difference between the two teams, the 0.27 mph and 0.00 horsepower is not too shabby. I'm off to join the circus...
Not really, but I did have fun riding the highwire bicycle. It was a tad bit unnerving out in the middle. I had help balancing from the gigantic weight hanging off and below the bike.

And that my friends, is all we have for now from the Pacific Science Center.

If there were awards for clever & cute blog posts, this one would definitely be a winner. How fun! The bike pictures freaked me out though. Can you really fall off?
